  • ineyards: Huichita clay loam forms the basic soil structure of this terroir, which is in the middle of the Russian River Valley, once a giant pre-historic lake. Row orientation is east-west, allowing Chuck to keep the sun-side of the vines always in good cover, with aggressive leaf-plucking on the shade side. The vineyard is entirely planted to the Swiss Clevner Mariafeld clone (UCD-23), which is known for its strength and structure.

  • Appellation: Russian River Valley

  • Harvest: This was one pick in the middle of September at 23.2 Brix. The skins are thick on this clone, so we

never have trouble with Botrytis or any vine disease issues.

  • Fermentation: Primary fermentation went smoothly and finished within a week of barreling down. Secondary fermentation also kicked off relatively easily.

  • Barrel Aging: 18 months in 15% new French oak, with the balance primarily once-used barrels. A full compliment of yeast lees remained in contact with the wine for the duration of barrel aging. Stirring was done once a month.

  • Production: 125 Cases
