Paul Hobbs is undeniably regarded as one of California’s finest winemakers crafting wines from some of the most coveted vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. For Crocus he teamed up with Malbec master Bertrand Vigouroux, whose family has been producing wine in Cahors, France since the 1860’s. Cahors being the ancestral home of Malbec is often forgotten as ground zero for Malbec due to the grape’s popularity in Argentina but in Cahors, the grape has been green since Roman times and it is here that the grape displays its truest, darkest, and most brooding character.

Crocus takes its name from the famed Crocus Sativus flower, prized for producing the spice saffron. The Crocus flower has been grown and harvested in the Cahors region since the 14th century.

The goal of Crocus is to redefine Malbec in its birthplace, combining old world, ancient terroirs with a new world vision and that’s exactly what this superstar winemaking team has done.

This wine is 100% Malbec harvested from four unique plots and blended to achieve the harmony between fruit, earth and soil. The wine shows an amazing purity of fruit unencumbered by oak influence.

Beautiful and bold black fruits like black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant jam and blueberry notes meet crispy acidity and round tannins.
