The farm started back in 1978 when a group of people rescued abandoned land from expropriation. Using goats, they cleared all the bushes and weeds from the fields and over time began to plant seeds. They planted cereals and legumes first, and then eventually expanded their work to include beekeeping and vineyards. La Ginestra has been organic since 1989 and they have been working naturally since 2012. La Ginestra is a polycultural farm – utilizing crop and grazing rotation with livestock over their 50 hectares of land. They produce a wide range of wines Including more traditional styles that fall under the Chianti and Riserva DOCG and some more experimental styles with pét-nats, macerated whites, amphora, and fresher, lighter reds. The business is multifaceted, as well as farming and winemaking, they also have a restaurant and agroturismo on the property. A younger generation now heads La Ginestra, pulling them to new opportunities. They currently work about 5.5 HA of vines planted to clay and limestone soils. Most of their vineyards are only about 20 years old
