The third vintage of this special estate cuvée. As was the case in the past two years, this wine comes from a fermentation of 100% whole-cluster Chave clone Syrah, aged in neutral French oak puncheons. The fruit for this wine was picked on October 20th, a very long 38 days from full veraison. The cool nights preserved acids and slowed sugar development, such that the finished alcohol is a modest 13.3%. Bottled, unfined, unfiltered.

The wine has the savory character of the 2016 but more up front fruit and structure. It is true vin de garde, another Halcón wine that will benefit from a few years in the cellar. The tannin is so refined. 130 cases.

94 Vinous - The 2018 Elevación (Syrah) is bold, pungent and savory, all while retaining the mid-weight sense of structure that is such a signature here. Black pepper, lavender, mint, rose petal and dried herbs add lovely layers of dimension. The 2018 is super-expressive and really delicious today.

17/20 Jancis Robinson - Deep crimson. Sumptuously ripe Syrah on the nose. Pure hedonism. Until it tightens up on the end. Very promising. Lots of energy.
